On Top of the Swing World- AGAIN!
Raising the bar for all those who will follow, studio Swing Director Robert Cordoba won his fifth US Swing Championship with partner Deborah Szekely who won her second consecutive title. Although Robert and Deborah went undefeated all year long anything can happen at the US Open as couples have one chance to get it right. Dancing to the Deborah Morgan remake of Hernando's Hideaway, they nailed their routine taking first from nearly all the judges. Congratulations Robert & Deborah! US Swing Champions!
Taking first in every showcase event in 2000, Robert and Deborah also won the N.A.S.D.E. race for $5000 as the top dancers in the U.S, that they are the first and only couple to win N.A.S.D.E. in all three categories- Showcase, Classic and Strictly Swing and do it 2 years in a row

Christmas Host Toy and Food Drive
During the holiday season we are often wrapped up in gift buying, often getting another sweater for somebody that doesn't need another sweater. This year Let's Dance will collect toys for underprivileged kids. An unwrapped gift for kids aged 4-10 will be most appreciated. gift certificates for meals at popular fast food restaurants are often an easy gift that is really appreciated. Cans of food will be given to local homeless shelters. The studio dance team members will distribute the food packages and toys will be passed on to the USMC Toys for Tots drive. Please bring items between December 5th and December 15th.

Controversy Surrounds US Open Again!
The only event that brings together all the various forms of Swing in the US has been under fire in recent years for it's mismanagement. Earlier this year it was announced that the event was sold to new owners. Ending their fifteen year ownership Jack & Maryann Bridges leaked the information that the final night of the three day event would have to be moved from the Century Plaza Hotel to the Hilton in Beverly Hills. The Bridges would have you believe, the hotel had been doublebooked and nobody noticed it until a few days before the event when in all probability the organizers were given the option and most likely an offer of lots of money to vacate early. Moving the event necessitated cancelling the Saturday night to pull up the floor, making the numerous vendors have to pack and unpack their wares. Most annoying was the inconvenience to the competitors who on the day of an event like to relax in their rooms and then come downstairs to compete. Instead they all had to checkout and move if they could get a hotel room at all or have to deal with parking. As a parting "gift", the winners were given used satin jackets instead of the traditional new ones. As usual the dancers got the short end of the stick from the organizers. Hopefully the new owners will put the interests of the dancers first.

Marcus & Barbl 3rd World Lindy Championships
After overcoming political machinations trying to exclude them from competing, Marcus & Barbl received an at large invitation to compete in their home town of Munich Germany. As we expected they were leading the event at the end of the first round but a boo boo in the final dropped them to third. It seems that the routine they normally do in shows includes aerials which are not allowed in the World Championships. Although they did not do the aerial, the hesitation at the moment was enough to drop them into 3rd. In any case as usual Let's Dance extends it's congratulations for a fantastic result in any case.

Calle Ocho Cruise Deadline Nearing!
Cruise Update...2001: A Salsa Odyssey
Our code name for the world's alltime Salsa party and cruise is just 3 months off, cabins are quickly booking up. L.A.'s #1 promoter Albert Torres has joined us as the newest co promoter and we now have well over 100 bookings. Several young ladies are looking for roomates so if you've been looking for somebody to share, don't put it off- call Rita Anderson at 800-503-9600 today! Enio just found airfares on Travelocity for $209 roundtrip to Miami so even if you can't make the cruise why not join us for the world's greatest Salsa party Calle Ocho. This year everyone booking into the Miami Airport Hilton will receive complimentary dimpled chads autographed by Elian Gonzalez.

Terryl Breaks Nose
The day after returning from Ohio, Terryl picked up her dogs at the kennel. While brushing one of them, the other bumped her and accidentally broke her nose. To see her current state click here

Auditions for Adult Performance Team
After many requests to restart the performance team for adults, we will be having a planning meeting on Tuesday December 19th at 10 pm after Level 1. If you cannot make that please let us know in advance that you are interested. Team members will learn a Salsa Routine for performance and other dances like Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba and more. Although this high energy team will be geared to 30's and under, those over 30 may audition as well. The team will work with various studio and visiting professionals.

December Class Changes
Because of the Christmas holidays we run a slightly reduced class schedule for those who need their nightly dance fix. Since the 4th week of level one Salsa falls on December 26th we will not have a class that day. Instead all Level One promotions will be on December 22nd and 23rd. The fifth week class will be held on Friday the 29th with no classes on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 31st and 1st. The last studio party of the year will be on Saturday the 2nd. Salsa 3 will only be offered once a week-on Tuesdays at 7:00. The Saturday level 3 class will resume in January.

Special Christmas Sale
For the month of December the Unlimited Monthly Class card is only $99! It is only available for sale from the 1st to the 7th. For students it is $79. Now that Brigitte has begun teaching private lessons we are having a special price to introduce her to our newer students. Privates with Brigitte will be available for $45-couples or $55-singles for the month of December. The last studio party of the year has been scheduled for Saturday December 2nd at 9:00. Dances for 2001 will be announced in mid December.

Classes for Kids & Teens
Recent competitions have shown a tremendous increase of competitors under 18. At Ohio Star Ball there were literally hundreds of kids in the various categories under 18 and hundreds of college students from universities all over the country competing. Since kids have a great time when exposed to ballroom dancing at an early age, why not give a youngster a gift of dancing, the gift that will last a lifetime! Classes will start on Saturday January 6th for all ages. 6-12 year olds start at 11am and teens start at noon.

LDLA Results at US Open
Not only did Robert and Deborah take the top prize in the Showcase division, but our own Cheryl Sevold dancing in her first year of eligibility with John Woodruff in the Masters' Dvision won 2nd place rocking the house with a super high energy Swing and Lindy number. Our own office manager Marie Salazar dancing with husband Steve qualified for the finals of the Strictly Swing division. Studio regulars Beata Howe and Mark (the Marine) Schueffle took fifth in the Professional Showcase division.

California Star Ball Results
The Star in it's 30th year has lost some of it's former luster due to the overwhelming size of the Ohio Star Ball just a week before. But while the professional numbers were small the amateur and collegiate events were well attended. Troy Morgan with junior team member Natalia Galindo managed to get 2nd in the Pre Championship Latin and xyz in the Open Championship division. Enio's son Alex dancing in his first major event with partner Arlene Chavez got first place in the uncontested High School/Youth division, 3rd in the Junior Latin and 3rd in the Novice Latin. To see a video clip of
Alex & Arlene.

Ohio Star Ball Results
Terryl & Nigel in their 2nd competition cracked the top 24 and received 40 callbacks narrowly missing the semifinal round. Although their practice time has been limited because of prior committments, they now gear up for the Holiday Dance Classic in Las Vegas on the 9th.
