your guide to learning and dancing
Swing, Lindy, and West Coast Swing in L.A.!

updated February 2009

"Have it your Way!" Until recently Let's Dance was the home studio of SEVEN time US Swing Champion Robert Cordoba, and Four Time US Swing Champions Deborah Szekely. Sadly for us they have relocated to the Boston area. But studio director Enio Cordoba has stepped in and will now be teaching the West Coast Swing classes until further notice. Enio competed in several US Championionships making the finals in various categories. He learned swing from one of the masters of his day- Hall of Famer Kenny Wetzel. Enio is trained in East and West Coast Swin , Flying Lindy, Balboa, Jitterbug and Jive. Over the years our classes have been taught by nothing but US Champions- Beata Howe, Melanie Roberts and Marcus Koch and Barbl Kaufer, the World Boogie Woogie Champions from Munich, West Germany, who often teach at Let's Dance when they are in town

What is the Difference Between West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop?

The best way to choose which style you want to learn is to understand what kind of music they are each danced too. West Coast Swing is a great choice to start with becauseit works to most Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Country Western, Motown, Big Band Foxtrot, Jazz or even 70s80s Hustlemusicas well as current Hip Hop music. It is also easy on the joints because it involves no bouncing. Lindy on the other hand is best danced to music from the 1930's and 1940's plussome of the retro bands out today like Cherry Poppin Daddies and Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums. West Coast Swing Dancers gather nightly at many places around the Southland like Memories in Whittier or the Hacienda by the airport and will dance a varied mix of R and B and even some disco Hustle. Lindy Hoppers will gather at places like the Green Hotel on Wednesday nights in Pasadena or the Derby in Hollywood. Most West Coast dance locations embrace younger dancers and costumes are rarely if ever worn- most will dress for comfort. Lindy hoppers are more likely to dress in an odd assortment of 30's-40's-or 50's garb.

Why Let's Dance?
When you have a studio full of US and World Champions other top dancers will always be passing through Let's Dance for coaching, choreography, or just hanging out at our monthly dances. In previous years at the US Open we had couples in the finals of nearly event. Our teachers here have won nearly every division. When our teachers travel to other schools to teach, their replacements are other US Champions. We won't try to sell you on one style of Swing because we're masters of all of the styles of Swing. For a complete rundown of results from the US Open see our December newsletter.
